Using the Verify and Confirm Connector for Address Processing

Once the Verify and Confirm connector has been configured for use, users can execute some simple steps to perform address checking operations.

Setting up the Verify and Confirm Address Process Functions for the first time

Navigate to the List Builder tab on the IOLITE Nexus App and select the TecMail Verify & Confirm v1 Connector.  For smaller lists, you can choose the function called 'Process Address List'.  For larger lists, use the 'Submit Order' option which will execute asyncrhronously.

Once you have made this selection, you'll be able to choose which Verify & Confirm function to perform when you submit your address list.  There are 2 choices to select for the type of Address Hygiene processing you wish to perform:

  • CASS.  This process will check all addresses against the US Postal Service's CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System).  This function will correct addresses and ensure that they match the proper address format as specified by the USPS.
  • NCOA:  This function will perform CASS normalization of addresses, and in addition it will check the NCOA (National Change of Address) database for any registered address changes within the past 18 months.

If you choose the CASS option, you can proceed to select the Output Case option:

  • Upper and Lower: Results will be returned in Mixed Case (Capitalized first letter, Lowercase remaining letters)
  • Upper: Results will be returned in ALL CAPS
  • Lower: Results will be returned in all lower case.

Once you have selected the Output Case, you can choose to include a Duplicate Flag in the result set.  This option will create a grouping indicator in the dataset that you send - giving a group id and a group number associated with any duplicates that are included in your Address cleansing dataset.  We would recommend that you select this option.

If you choose the NCOA Address Hygiene option, there are additional steps to perform.  To submit this function, you are required to utilize a PAF (Processing Acknowledgement Form).  When you sign up for this service, the TEC Mailing team will configure a Userid and also create a PAF.  The PAF is required to confirm the ownership of a list of records that is being processed by the US Postal Service.  Your Salesforce list process must be accompanied by a PAF to comply with the Privacy act of 1974.  The PAF should already be created as you set up your account with TEC Mailing Solutions.  If you do not see at least one PAF listed in the panel indicated, click the "Reload Available PAFs from ExpressPAF" link.  If you still don't see a valid PAF after the Reload, please contact TEC Mailing Solutions to get this created.  Once you have created a PAF, you can simply re-use that same PAF for subsequent executions of the NCOA function - as long as that PAF is not expired.

Once you have a valid PAF, you are now ready to proceed to the next step - building your list for submission.

Building your list for submission to the Address Validation Service.

Scroll to the bottom of the List Builder tab, and review the Query Builder.  The Query selection parameters will be automatically populated from your Outbound message mapping.  If you do not supply a "Where" clause - then the query will execute to find all the records in your Salesforce instance.  If you want to reduce the number of records submitted for Address processing - you'll need to limit the selection by populating the "Where" clause.  Use the variable names you see in the Selection line above as variables you can use to populate the "Where" clause.  Note that you will need to enclose your selection criteria in single quotes.  See the example - where we are limiting our address selections to the State of Colorado:

Click the Validate Query button to check that the Query has valid syntax. 

When you are ready to proceed, you can send your list by clicking the Execute Function button.  This executes the list builder function - and sends it to the Address Validation service.
